Paranormal romance author Kelly O’Hearn chats with me about her new novel, Arcanum: Whispers in the Forest.

Bio:
When Kelly O’Hearn first stepped off the train in the city of Florence, Italy, as a 20-year-old, she had the overwhelming instinct that she had been there before. In a place famous for its maze of medieval streets, Kelly navigated the city as if she had lived there for a lifetime. Born in New York City, Kelly first put her intuitive skills to work as a professional wine taster, instructor, and sommelier in the elite institutions of New York, Portugal, and Aspen. After raising her two children and enduring a personal health crisis, in 2012, she was drawn to begin reading the tarot cards, an ancient practice which does not presume to “predict the future” but offers a collection of stories, perspectives, and self-reflections that can guide one to become one’s most authentic self. Kelly is in high demand for her readings, with clients on every continent but Antartica. While most people were baking sourdough or riding their Pelotons during the Covid pandemic, Kelly used the tarot cards to channel her own past lives. Weeks of readings, all captured on video, yielded six storylines of herself as several powerful women over the millennia and around the globe: the same one soul, over time, persevering against all odds in the quest for happiness and the love of a soul mate. This time-bending saga inspired Kelly to conceive of a series of novels titled Arcanum.

Please tell us about your current release.
Arcanum: Whispers in the Forest, is the second book in my series of novels about 5 souls who travel through time and space in multiple past lives all in service to assisting the heroine to finally accept and receive true love from her soul mate. Book 1 took place in Ancient Egypt while this book takes place in the past life of Renaissance France.

What inspired you to write this book?
I had a past life regression in 2017 which then inspired me during Covid to channel those past lives using my tarot cards. I literally channeled these stories using my cards. I have over 40 hours of video recorded sessions as I created the story.

What exciting project are you working on next?
I am now moving on to Book number 3! The past life in book 3 is the Vatican in the late 1400s.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I am not sure I do yet! But when book 1 was published I definitely could call myself an author.

Do you write full-time? If so, what’s your workday like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
No, I do not write full time. I have a very busy and robust business as a tarot reader with clients on every continent except Antartica. But I am fortunate that I can pivot into writing easily and find no resistance to the practice.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I channel everything I write so it doesn’t come from me, it comes through me. It makes it so incredibly easy!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A surgeon.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
All of this did not start for me until 2014 when I was 48 years old. Never believe you age out of relevance or potential. Life is an eternal opportunity of renewal and rebirth.
