Writer Lincoln E.C. Greenidge chats with me today about his new self-help book, No More Excuses: Taking the First Step to Living a Life of Purpose, with Meaning.
Bio:
Lincoln E.C. Greenidge is a multi-award-winning, world-renowned executive and public speaker, an International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) Hall of Famer, and the founder of WITL Multimedia Group (short for “Walk In The Light”). Lincoln has also won prestigious awards from the IAOTP, including Top VP of the Year, Top CFO of the year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Top Business Innovator of the Year, and Top CFO of the Decade. After nearly 30 years as a Financial Executive in six different industries, Lincoln was appointed President and CEO of Sandfire Resources America Inc.
Achieving these monumental honors has inspired Lincoln to share the secrets of his success with his motivational self-help book, No More Excuses: Taking the First Step to Living a Life of Purpose, with Meaning. In this book, Lincoln illuminates the most common excuses people tell themselves and how to overcome them, no matter their personal or professional backgrounds.
In addition to being a hard-worker, Lincoln is contagiously kind, courageous, grounded, and optimistic. He credits much of his success to his philosophy that people are the #1 core of success. Not only must people strive to overcome self-limiting beliefs, but they must also strive to serve others using their unique personal advantages. This community standard of excellence makes a clear message: changing oneself and the world relies on mindset, teamwork, and living a life with meaning and purpose.
While achieving these monumental honors, Lincoln’s son overcame a rare form of cancer called bilateral retinoblastoma. Lincoln and his wife do their best in bringing up their two children they affectionately describe as “their genius son” and their “daughter who has the voice of an angel.”
Welcome, Lincoln. Please tell us about your current release.
This is my time I have written a book which is now published. The book is called No More Excuses, with each chapter’s title being an excuse that one person or another says daily. I then dig into the core of why people use excuses and why it is poison to the soul and that the antidote is within one’s mind.
What inspired you to write this book?
I have often heard many people give excuses for why they are not living their best life, or why they are not using their gifts to live a life of purpose, or simply being a better version of themselves each day. Then it dawned on me that I have always said I should write a book, and I too had excuses for why years had gone by and yet did not. Therefore, instead of me highlighting this behaviour in others, I decided to set the example by writing this book to inspire others and to get out of making excuses of any kind myself.
What exciting project are you working on next?
I am working on writing my next two books. One is tentatively called “PURPOSE”, and the other is called “Cash does NOT lie”. I know the second one seems out of context, my desire is to write what I know from my experiences to inspire people to walk into the light and embrace the endless potential within themselves. Also, I love to include humour, where I can, so this book about cash should be funny yet informative.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I have always loved the written word and enjoyed writing from a young age. However, I believe the frequency of my writing increased after migrating to Ottawa Canada, from St. Lucia, in 1989. The reason most likely was due to the fact I wrote more letters to friends and family than I ever did previously.
Do you write full-time? If so, what’s your workday like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I do not write full-time as I am a mining executive and that is my full-time role. However, much of what I write comes to me while walking my dog Rocky, an hour and a half each day. Somehow, I retain this information and at nights type them out. Essentially, while I walk, I develop a framework in terms of how I would like to write the book, then figure out what the content and title of each chapter should be, then I write, write, and write some more.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Talking to my dog Rocky about my writing ideas.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An entrepreneur.
Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
Fun fact about my dad who I admire more than anyone. In 2014 before his 70th birthday, I called him and asked, “What do you want for your birthday?”. He replied “toys”. I was puzzled, so I asked him again, “Daddy, what do YOU want for your 70th birthday. This time he replied, “Toys for the kids”. The only person I have ever known who on his birthday would rather see children receive gifts, instead of receiving for himself. Imagine that…. This is what it looks like to be selfless and live a life of purpose.
