Today’s special guest is writer Darren J. Squire to chat about his motivational non-fiction, Moosings of a Cow.
He’s currently touring with RABT Book Tours. You can check out the details for his other stops below.
Welcome, Darren. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background? What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
First of all, that I am a physicist. I so enjoy the sciences. But there is so much more than that. I enjoy life. I like helping people. I believe that everyone has story to tell. I found that this was a chance for me to be able to be creative in a new way and hopefully be a little helpful in the process. I don’t have illusions of grandeur, but I have to know for myself that I am doing my best. As long as I am being true to my heart, that is what really counts as success.
Please tell us a little bit about your recent release.
This book was designed to provide wholesome advice with a touch of humor by providing it from the perspective of a barnyard cow.
What inspired you to write this book?
My dad had heart surgery 11 years ago and had an aortic valve replacement and it was a cow valve. I sort of made many cow jokes out of it (it helped with the stress of the situation). I eventually thought why not see if this could be a book.
Do you outline your books beforehand? Why or why not?
Yes. The outline was fairly easy. I like have an overall idea of what I am aiming for and the outline helps to create the frame work from which to build the rest.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned while writing?
Don’t force the process. Finding the balance of having dreams but no expectations. And also to like in everything in life, enjoy the journey on the way to the destination.
How do you make non-fiction interesting and engaging while still being informative?
I think being authentic is the most important. No one can resonate with inauthentic work. Everything has a story. The challenge is to make the story engaging.
What is your favorite part of writing?
I love the chance to be creative and informative.
Who will this book appeal to? What age range would you recommend it for?
I hope that this book could appeal to all ages and all, especially families, but especially those lost in the bustle of daily life.
What is your next project?
I would love to do something on WW2.Something really based upon history.I have in fact already visited the military archives at Bundesarchiv, Freiburg to prepare for research into this.
Do you have a favorite book – fiction or non-fiction? How about one of your own?
I absolutely love Henry Kissinger’s book Diplomacy. I have read it twice and found it so informative on how the modern world has been shaped and continues to be shaped.
