Bio:
S.M. Morgan is the author of The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper — A Middle Grade Adventure. He lives in East Texas with his wife, daughter, and son, and when not writing potty humor for kids, he is trying to get alone to read more mystery adventure stories.

When the real world calls him to be social, he can be found canoeing with his family or trying to convince his wife to watch action movies.

Welcome, S.M., please tell us about your current release.
The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper is about Teddy, a modern-day kid trying to survive middle school, but when he finds a 6th graders journal from the late 1940s, his whole life changes!

What inspired you to write this book?
My daughter inspired me! I came up with the name Bud Wiper and presented it to her, and she burst into laughter.

Excerpt from The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper:
Mom slowed the car and turned into what must have been a driveway. Instead of a concrete entry like the other houses in the neighborhood, there was a narrow dirt road. A large brick gate with vines and overgrowth covering it appeared from the woods. In old, rusty looking text, it read: Welcome— Home of D. Bud Wiper.

“D. Butt Wiper, the guy living here is named D. Butt Wiper?” I asked.

“Bud Wiper,” Mom corrected me, “and that is Mr. Wiper to you. Please use your manners, Teddy.”

What exciting project are you working on next?
I am working on The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper Vol. 2 and Small “one-off” stories from Bud Wiper’s journal.

caricature pic of author S.M. MorganWhen did you first consider yourself a writer?
I must have been 8 years old when I first thought of myself as a writer. I had this scene that I thought of that set with me for several months. I then wrote it out on a blank sheet of manila paper. It was terrible.

I found and framed it a few years ago because it helps me remember where I came from. It was bad! I’m sure I ripped off some fantasy movie that I had recently watched. But at age 8, it was all original and the best thing ever.

Do you write full-time? If so, what’s your workday like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
No, I do not write full-time, but to support myself and my family, I am the CTO of a web development and marketing company. I have a wife and 2 kiddos, and I tell you what, it is tough to find time to write. I didn’t have a solid set time that I wrote when writing The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper, but what I did was outline the entire book(or most of it) into bite-size chunks, almost like chapters. And then, I would make 2-hour sprints at night. I did this for a solid 2 months before the first draft was completed.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I absolutely have to write in Garamond size 10. It has to be size 10 because I know if I fill a page, it’s actually more than a page 🙂

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A writer of course! My first introduction to “story” was through TV and movies, and then I found prose, and I was hooked. My parents didn’t read much and didn’t encourage me to read much. But at least I had my story fix with movies. Most fathers and sons share some common bonding interest, whether that be baseball, fishing, hunting… those sorts of things. Not me! My dad and I went to the movies a lot.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I want to thank the readers and any soon-to-be readers. Thank you for supporting me! Your input is so helpful, much more than I could have imagined.
